Read on and find out about some of the cheapest trips possible in:
- The Americas
Asia has a lot to offer when it comes to cheap places to travel. Southeast Asia has long been one of the favourite choices, and within the region, Laos and Cambodia are the two cheapest options. These countries are both fairly undeveloped compared to their neighbours, and offer a variety of amazing sights. Cambodia is home to Angkor Wat, a stunning temple complex stretching back to the Tenth Century. It’s truly a one of a kind place to visit, and you have practically free rein to wander through the temples as you see fit. Laos has more to offer in terms of natural beauty. The Mekong traverses this small landlocked country, and a boat ride is not only affordable, but also stunningly beautiful.
Vietnam Offers Amazing Diversity
Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam is another fantastic choice. Bordering both of the above, it offers a huge range of variety, combined with extremely affordable accommodation and transport. A fairly reliable train line runs the length of the country, passing through Ho Chi Minh City in the South and Hanoi in the North. From the Mekong Delta to the mountains of Sapa, there’s no shortage of stunning countryside and ancient sites to enjoy with an affordable price tag.
As far as Europe goes, while many areas in Western and Northern Europe remain expensive, the East and the Balkans are attractive options for travellers working with a budget. Poland is a favorite location for many travellers, as ar the neighboring Baltic States. Romania is still very much an untouched area, offering truly beautiful countryside, cities full of faded grandeur, and a Black Sea coastline that is very popular with locals. To the south, the Balkans offer a wide variety of culture, combined with a certain amount of tragic recent history. These countries are among the poorest in Europe, and travel is probably the cheapest in the continent. Despite ongoing hardships, this is still a beautiful region with friendly people, decent food, and dirt cheap rakkia.
As far as the Americas go, the central American countries remain the most affordable. Some of these areas are blighted by violence, and travelers need to consider their route carefully. However, a combination of beautiful jungles and stunning beaches, combined with welcoming locals and some unique food and drink, make this region well worth a visit.
These are just a few of the top locations open to travellers on a budget. There are plenty of other countries out there for you to explore, and the odds are that prices are still very low in many parts of the world. Check some of the above locations, and try out a few of your own as well.
